In the same family since the late 1700's and lived in throughout the
year by the owners, the Count and Countess d'Armagnac, the castle is set
amongst 750 acres of mainly grass and woodland. Not only impressive by
its rich history and architectural diversity, beauty and calm are the
most dominant features of this magnificent estate. Transformed over the
last 30 years into a working farm by Monsieur d'Armagnac, over 400 head
of Caussenards, a breed of very robust sheep of Central France
are raised on his land. Madam d'Armagnac welcomes her guests in the various
houses available for rental and also in her 15th century dining room.
Her table offers regional organic meals made from goods, 80 percent of
which are produced on her land.
The various cottages offered for rental are located next to the castle
and form a little hamlet. Each unique accommodation benefits from the
most beautiful scenery and tranquility the Estate has to offer. Miles
of walks or bicycle rides are possible without leaving the grounds of
the property. Rich local wildlife such as deer and birds of prey can be
seen. A small lake also offers the possibility for fishing. An ideal place
for children to meet and play and for parents to relax. Most cottages
offer great space for different family members or groups of friends wishing
to spend a memorable holiday in Couanac. Located on the Causse de Limogne,
30 minutes drive from Cahors, the castle is situated near the village
of Varaire. The river Lot and numerous activities are all within easy
reach by car from Couanac
